That's when I met Al, a beach boy in Waikiki, who introduced me to outrigger canoe paddling. On the water, I rediscovered the ocean's ability to cleanse, the 'aina's power to ground, and the rhythm that quieted my inner storms.
Al's greatest lesson was to paddle from the heart—to give fully and be present. Paddling became my path to healing, and eventually, to guiding others.
